Published Date: 1/10/2025

Notice

Summary

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is meeting in late February 2025 to discuss vaccine recommendations that affect everyone who gets vaccines in the U.S. They’re inviting public comments from February 3-17, so you can share your thoughts! These meetings help decide important vaccine updates that could impact health policies and funding.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Approved ACIP Recommendations Trigger Coverage

The ACIP advises CDC on vaccine use, and immunization recommendations that are approved by the CDC Director and placed on CDC immunization schedules generally must be covered by applicable health plans under the Affordable Care Act and Public Health Service Act. This means when ACIP recommendations are approved and put on the CDC schedule, those vaccines are generally required to be covered by applicable health plans.

Vaccine‑for‑Children List and Votes Affect Kids

Under 42 U.S.C. 1396s, ACIP is required to establish and periodically review the list of vaccines for vaccine-eligible children through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program and to review schedules for dosing and contraindications. At the February 26-28, 2025 meeting, VFC votes are scheduled for influenza and meningococcal vaccines, which directly concern vaccines for children.

ACIP Will Vote on Several Specific Vaccines

The ACIP meeting agenda for February 26-28, 2025 includes discussions and scheduled recommendation votes for meningococcal, chikungunya, influenza, and RSV vaccines for adults, and discussions of many other vaccines such as COVID-19, CMV, HPV, mpox, pneumococcal, RSV for maternal and pediatric populations, and Lyme disease. Recommendation votes are specifically scheduled for meningococcal, chikungunya, influenza, and adult RSV during the meeting.

Public Comment Window and Oral Testimony Rules

The public can submit written comments for Docket No. CDC-2025-0003 between February 3-17, 2025 via Regulations.gov or by mail. If you want to speak at the meeting you must request oral public comment by 11:59 p.m. EST on February 17, 2025; speakers will be limited to three minutes, may be chosen by random draw if there are too many, and CDC will notify selected speakers by February 19, 2025. The meeting will also be webcast live.
