Monument Boundaries Restored; New Plan Now In Effect

The Bureau of Land Management restored the Grand Staircase‑Escalante National Monument boundaries to what they were before December 4, 2017, and the new Resource Management Plan (RMP) took effect when the Record of Decision was signed on January 6, 2025. The new plan replaces the 2020 GSENM and Kanab‑Escalante Planning Area RMPs and is intended to protect and restore objects identified in Presidential Proclamations 10286 and 6920.

Changes Affecting Grazing, Forestry, and Recreation

The Approved RMP is based on the Proposed RMP (Alternative E) with minor changes to management actions, goals, and best practices for forestry, grazing, recreation, vegetation, and wildlife. These edits took effect when the ROD was signed on January 6, 2025, and the full descriptions of the modifications are in section 1.2.2 of the ROD.
