Summary
The U.S. International Trade Commission got a complaint from UnaliWear, Inc. saying some big tech companies like Apple, Samsung, Google, and Garmin might be selling wearable devices with fall detection that break the rules. The Commission wants your thoughts on how this affects the public before deciding on possible bans or restrictions. This could lead to changes in what devices are sold in the U.S. and might impact these companies during a 60-day review period.

Possible U.S. ban on fall-detection wearables
A company (UnaliWear, Inc.) filed a complaint on December 12, 2025 asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to block certain wearable devices with fall detection made or sold by Apple, Samsung, Google, and Garmin. The complainant asked for limited exclusion orders, cease-and-desist orders, and a bond during the 60-day Presidential review period (pursuant to 19 U.S.C. 1337(j)), which could change which devices are sold in the United States.
Inquiry on U.S. production and replacement capacity
The Commission is asking for public comment on whether excluding the accused wearable devices would affect U.S. competitive conditions and whether complainant, licensees, or third-party suppliers could replace the volume of excluded articles in a commercially reasonable time. Comments should identify like or directly competitive articles made in the United States that could replace the subject articles.
