Summary
Tennessee Gas Pipeline and Southern Natural Gas want to build and upgrade hundreds of miles of natural gas pipelines and stations across Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. This project aims to boost energy flow and reliability but could affect local communities and environments. You’ve got until March 23, 2026, to share your thoughts before final decisions and possible construction start.
Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.
Hundreds of Miles of New Pipelines
Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) plans to build about 208 miles of new pipeline and associated facilities, including three new compressor stations (95,700 ISO hp; 23,470 ISO hp; 63,800 ISO hp) and four meter stations in Mississippi and Alabama. Southern Natural Gas/Elba Express (SSE4) plans about 291 miles of pipeline loops, compression increases at 14 stations, and new/modified meter stations across Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. These construction projects would occur across many listed counties in MS, AL, and GA and could affect land, property, and local environments where they are built.
Residents Within 25 Feet Get Site Plans
If your residence is within 25 feet of construction work areas, the companies developed site-specific construction plans (in appendices G and H of the draft EIS) and FERC specifically encourages those landowners to review and comment. These landowners can provide site-specific input before the final EIS and any Commission decision.
Draft EIS Finds Limited Adverse Effects
FERC staff's draft Environmental Impact Statement concludes that approval of the Projects would have some limited adverse environmental effects, but with the companies' avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures and Commission-recommended measures, those effects would be less than significant.
Public Comment Deadline and Meetings
You can submit comments on the draft EIS by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on March 23, 2026. FERC staff is holding public comment sessions between February 23, 2026 and March 11, 2026 in specified locations in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia where oral and written comments will be recorded and included in the public record.
