Sabine Pass Gas Expansion: Draft EIS Seeks Public Input Now

Published Date: 4/8/2026

Notice

Summary

Sabine Pass Liquefaction and partners want to grow their natural gas terminal in Louisiana by adding new equipment and building a big new pipeline through Texas and Louisiana. This project will create new compressor and meter stations to help move more gas safely and efficiently. People have until May 26, 2026, to share their thoughts before final decisions and possible construction start.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Big Pipeline and Terminal Expansion

The project would build a new 48-inch-diameter, 55.6-mile natural gas pipeline and add three new liquefaction trains at the Sabine Pass terminal, plus new compressor and six meter stations in Liberty, Chambers, and Jefferson Counties, Texas and Cameron and Beauregard Parishes, Louisiana. If you live or own property in the project area, you may experience construction and long-term operation of these large facilities near you.

Environmental Effects on Wetlands and Air

FERC's Draft EIS says most construction effects would be temporary or short-term, but some long-term or permanent impacts would occur to wetlands, forested lands, visual resources, and air quality in the project area. The Draft EIS evaluates these impacts and discusses mitigation measures the Applicants propose.

FERC Finds Safety Safeguards Acceptable

Based on a preliminary engineering and technical review of the terminal expansion design, FERC staff concluded there are acceptable layers of protection that would reduce the risk of a hazardous scenario developing into an event that could impact the offsite public. The Draft EIS also recommends environmental and engineering conditions to include in any authorization.
