Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Recordkeeping for SRM removal

If your facility slaughters or processes cattle, you must develop written procedures for removing, segregating, and disposing of specified risk materials (SRMs) and keep daily records showing how you implement and monitor those procedures and any corrective actions (9 CFR 310.22(e)). These records must be maintained by official establishments that slaughter or process cattle or parts of cattle.

Transport documentation for older cattle parts

If your slaughter establishment transports carcasses or parts of cattle 30 months of age and older that contain vertebral columns to other federally inspected establishments, you must ensure the shipment is accompanied by documentation stating it contains those vertebral columns and keep records identifying the receiving establishments and verifying they removed and properly disposed of the designated SRM portions (9 CFR 310.22(g)).

Scale of recordkeeping burden

The information collection renewal covers 3,512 business respondents (described as "Business or other for-profit") and reports a total of 123,916 annual burden hours for the SRM recordkeeping and reporting requirements. This reflects the aggregate time the industry is estimated to spend on these recordkeeping tasks.
