Stay of Federal Building Fossil-Fuel Rule

Starting April 20, 2026, the Department of Energy paused the requirement that certain new federal buildings and major renovations meet limits on fossil fuel–generated energy. Federal agencies are not required to comply with subpart B of 10 CFR parts 433 and 435 (the Clean Energy for New Federal Buildings and Major Renovations provisions) until September 1, 2026, giving agencies more time before they must spend money to meet the standards for projects tied to designs beginning on or after May 1, 2025.
