Temporary No‑Entry Event Area
You cannot enter, transit through, block, or loiter within the Sail GP "Event Area" in Upper Bay, New York Harbor between Governors Island, Ellis Island, and Liberty Island during enforcement hours (noon–6:30 p.m. on May 30 and noon–6:30 p.m. on May 31, 2026) unless you get permission from the Captain of the Port (COTP) or their designated representative.
Race Area Reserved for Participants
Within the Event Area, a smaller dynamic "Race Area" will be marked and is restricted to registered race participants and official safety and support personnel; all other persons and vessels are prohibited from entering, transiting, or remaining in the Race Area during the event.
Spectator Area Rules and Capacity Limits
All waters within the Event Area not designated as the Race Area are the "Spectator Area"; spectators and their vessels must remain in the Spectator Area, are responsible for maneuvering to avoid the changing Race Area, and the COTP may limit the number of vessels in the Spectator Area to prevent overcrowding—once capacity is reached no additional vessels are allowed unless authorized.
Transit Only Area — No Stopping or Anchoring
A defined "Transit Only Area" within the Event Area prohibits vessels from stopping, loitering, remaining, or anchoring there during enforcement (noon–6:30 p.m. on May 30–31, 2026).
How to Request Entry Authorization
If you need permission to enter the Event Area during enforcement, you must contact the Captain of the Port or the COTP's representative on VHF‑FM channel 16 and comply with lawful orders or directions given by the COTP or their designated representative.
Dynamic Race Boundaries and Public Notices
The Race Area boundaries will be dynamic and set based on weather; the event sponsor will demarcate them with markers and on‑scene assets, and the public will be notified of enforcement or schedule changes via marine broadcasts, local notices to mariners, or on‑scene representatives.
