FAA Orders Honda Jet Manual Updates After Tool Damage

Published Date: 5/28/2026

Rule

Summary

If you own or work on Honda Model HA-420 airplanes, listen up! The FAA found some tool damage inside the plane and missing info in the maintenance manual. Starting July 2, 2026, you’ll need to update your maintenance manual with new instructions to keep flying safe—no big costs, just important fixes to keep your jet in top shape.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory visual and ultrasonic inspections

The AD requires performing the inspections and any necessary repairs specified in Honda Service Bulletin SB-420-53-009, including visual inspection for impact damage and ultrasonic inspection of the fuselage skin. The initial compliance time is before accumulating 6,000 total flights or within 30 days after July 2, 2026, whichever occurs later.

You must update the maintenance manual

If you own or work on a Honda Model HA-420 covered by this AD, you must revise the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) of your maintenance manual or instructions for continued airworthiness within 30 days after July 2, 2026 by incorporating Honda Service Bulletin SB-420-53-009 (dated April 26, 2023). The FAA estimates revising the ALS takes 1 work-hour (at $85), so the estimated cost per airplane for this revision is $85 and the total cost for U.S. operators is $18,530 for 218 airplanes.

Which airplanes are covered

This AD applies only to Honda Model HA-420 airplanes with serial numbers 42000012 through 42000230. The FAA estimates 218 airplanes on the U.S. registry are affected. The AD is effective July 2, 2026.

No alternative procedures allowed without approval

After you complete the required actions in paragraph (g), you may not use alternative actions, thresholds, or intervals (including life limits) unless you obtain an approved Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC). AMOC requests must follow 14 CFR 39.19 and be sent to the Manager, East Certification Branch (contact information provided in the AD).
