Upward Bound Serves Low-Income, First-Gen Students

If you are a student, Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science target potential first-generation college students, low-income students, or students at high risk of academic failure and offer services like tutoring, college-course advice, college test prep, help with financial aid applications, GED or reentry support, and financial literacy. Projects funded two years or more also must provide instruction in math through pre-calculus, laboratory science, foreign language, composition, and literature.

Annual Reporting Continues Unchanged

If your organization runs an Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math-Science program, the Department will keep collecting the Annual Performance Report using the current form. The Department estimates 1,244 annual responses and a total of 21,148 annual burden hours for respondents.

Who Can Apply for UB/UBMS Grants

Institutions of higher education, public or private agencies or organizations (including community-based groups with experience serving disadvantaged youth), secondary schools, or combinations of these are eligible applicants for Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science funding.

No New Costs or Major Changes Planned

The Department plans to extend the information collection request without changing the form and states that no new costs or big changes are planned. The comment deadline for this notice is August 3, 2026.
