Summary

Georgia Power wants to make some changes to their North Georgia hydroelectric project on the Savannah River basin, but these changes won’t affect how much power it produces. People living in parts of Georgia and South Carolina near the project might notice the updates, and the public has until June 29, 2026, to share their thoughts or get involved. Yonah spillway upgrades start in 2027

You live near the North Georgia hydropower project (Tallulah, Chattooga, and Tugalo Rivers) — Georgia Power plans to replace flashboards with Obermeyer gates and build a control room at the Yonah Development. The work will be installed behind a bulkhead (so no reservoir drawdown), is expected to begin in 2027 and take 18 to 24 months, will cause no ground disturbance and will use previously disturbed/graveled staging areas, and the project will continue to operate under its current license without changing its power output. The public may file comments, protests, or motions to intervene by June 29, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
