Natural Gas Service Maintained During Bridge Work

The project is intended to allow replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges while continuing to provide uninterrupted natural gas service to the National Grid distribution system on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, Massachusetts. This means homes and businesses served by National Grid near the canal are the focus of the work to keep gas service flowing during bridge construction.

FERC EA Finds No Significant Environmental Impact

FERC staff's environmental assessment (EA) for the Cape Cod Canal Pipeline Relocation Project concludes that approval of the proposed project "would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment." The EA presents the staff's analysis for the Commission to consider and is not itself a decision document.

The project involves abandonment (by removal) of 0.61 mile of 8-inch G-8C, 0.61 mile of 8-inch G-8L, 0.31 mile of 8-inch G-11, 0.49 mile of 18-inch G-24, and two metering & regulating stations; abandonment in place of 0.72 mile of 8-inch G-8C and 0.72 mile of 8-inch G-8L; and construction of new pipeline segments including 0.43 mile of 8-inch G-11, 0.66 mile of 18-inch G-24, 3.03 miles of 16-inch G-32, and 2.17 miles of 18-inch G-31, plus four new or relocated M&R stations and installation of pig launchers and receivers. These construction and removal activities are described as part of the proposed project in the project area in Bourne.
