Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Grants to Strengthen School Safety

The FY2026 School Safety Enhancement program funds State educational agencies to develop, implement, and strengthen statewide school safety systems and the physical security of schools. The program explicitly supports improving school infrastructure security, strengthening emergency response planning and coordination, and enhancing training and preparedness exercises for school personnel and school resource officers (SROs).

Competitive Preference for Rural Applicants

The FY2026 competition includes a competitive preference priority for rural applicants, giving rural applicants an advantage in the grant selection process. Rural SEAs may therefore be more likely to receive awards under this competition.

Only State Educational Agencies Eligible

Only State educational agencies (SEAs), as defined in 20 U.S.C. 7801(49), are eligible to apply for the FY2026 School Safety Enhancement grants. The Grants.gov application notice is the official document governing this competition.

Application Deadline: July 28, 2026

Complete proposals must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov 'APPLY' by 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern time on July 28, 2026. States and eligible applicants must meet this deadline to be considered for FY2026 funding.
