Airbus Planes Told to Move a Harness

Published Date: 6/29/2026

Proposed Rule

Summary

The FAA wants to fix a safety issue on certain Airbus Canada airplanes where a hydraulic pump harness is too close to the plane’s structure, which could cause problems. They’re proposing a simple fix to move the harness and keep flights safe. Owners need to comment by August 13, 2026, and the fix might cost some time and money but keeps everyone flying worry-free.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Required harness modification for safety

If you operate Airbus Canada Model BD-500-1A10 or BD-500-1A11 airplanes, the FAA proposes a rule requiring you to modify the hydraulic motor pump harness installation by adding a clamp support on the bracket between fuselage frames FR 80 and FR 81 as specified in Transport Canada AD CF-2025-18 (dated March 21, 2025). The change is meant to stop harness chafing that could create an ignition source and lead to an uncontained fire.

Compliance cost per airplane estimated

The FAA estimates the modification will take 1 work-hour at $85 plus $27 in parts, for a total cost of $112 per airplane. The FAA estimates this proposed AD would affect 101 U.S.-registered airplanes, for a total estimated cost to U.S. operators of $11,312.
