Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection; Comment Request

Published Date: 7/30/2026

Notice

Summary

This notice announces the intention of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to request that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approve the extension with change of the currently approved information collection "AHRQ Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Database for Health Plans" (OMB Control number 0935-0165, last approved on December 31, 2023).

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Increased submission burden and cost

Organizations that submit CAHPS Health Plan data will face a small increase in submission burden driven by more data file submissions in 2025. AHRQ estimates the annual respondent burden at 893 hours across 129 point-of-contacts (about 114 sponsoring State Medicaid agencies and health plans plus 15 vendor organizations) and an annualized cost burden of $100,115.

State-level Medicaid reporting without plan names

AHRQ will provide state-level CAHPS Health Plan data to CMS for public reporting on Medicaid.gov and Data.Medicaid.gov, and those public reports will not display the names of the health plans. This affects how Medicaid-related plan performance data is presented to the public.
