UC Davis Intends Repatriation
The University of California, Davis intends to repatriate one object of cultural patrimony (a basket, CHM 102) that has a cultural affiliation with the Blue Lake Rancheria, California. Repatriation may occur on or after September 14, 2026, and written requests may be sent to the UC Davis Repatriation Coordinator at the address in this notice by any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization.
Potential Pesticide Treatment Note
UC Davis notes that about one-third of the Merriam collection was treated with Berlou, a dry mothproofing insecticide, in 1964 and it is unknown which baskets were treated. The university is unaware of any specific treatment of the individual object (CHM 102), but this history could affect handling or safety precautions for museum staff or anyone receiving the basket.
