FAA quietly reshuffles airport approach paths for invisible obstacles

Published Date: 8/19/2026

Rule

Summary

This rule establishes, amends, suspends, or removes Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPS) and associated Takeoff Minimums and Obstacle Departure procedures (ODPs) for operations at certain airports. These regulatory actions are needed because of the adoption of new or revised criteria, or because of changes occurring in the National Airspace System, such as the commissioning of new navigational facilities, adding new obstacles, or changing air traffic requirements. These changes are designed to provide safe and efficient use of the navigable airspace and to promote safe flight operations under instrument flight rules at the affected airports.

Airport Instrument Procedure Changes

The FAA is establishing, amending, suspending, or removing Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs), Takeoff Minimums, and Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs) for named airports. Short-Notice Effective Dates Allowed

Some SIAPs, Takeoff Minimums, and ODP amendments may be made effective in less than 30 days when issued earlier as emergency Flight Data Center (FDC) NOTAMs for immediate flight safety. For other amendments, the FAA provides an effective date at least 30 days after publication.

Procedures Available Online Free

All SIAPs, Takeoff Minimums, and ODPs are available online free of charge from the National Flight Data Center (nfdc.faa.gov) by registering, and individual copies may be obtained from the FAA Air Traffic Organization Service Area for the affected airport.

No Significant Small-Entity Impact

The FAA certifies under the Regulatory Flexibility Act that this amendment will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities. The FAA also states it has determined the anticipated economic impact to be minimal.
