FAA Targets Airbus 'Triple PRIM FAULT' at Touchdown

Published Date: 8/19/2026

Proposed Rule

Summary

The FAA proposes to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Airbus SAS Model A330-941 airplanes. This proposed AD was prompted by an occurrence of a triple "PRIM FAULT" in the Flight Control Primary Computer (FCPC) at touchdown. This proposed AD would require the installation of a new FCPC standard and applicable concurrent modifications. This proposed AD would also prohibit the installation of certain parts The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Required FCPC upgrade for A330-941

If you operate an Airbus A330-941, this proposed AD would require installing a new Flight Control Primary Computer (FCPC) standard and applicable concurrent modifications per EASA AD 2025-0208 (dated September 24, 2025). The FAA estimates the work is up to 23 hours at $85/hour (up to $1,955 labor) plus up to $7,542 in parts, for a total cost per airplane of up to $9,497, affecting 39 U.S.-registered airplanes for a total estimated cost up to $370,383.

Parts installation restriction on FCPCs

This proposed AD (incorporating EASA AD 2025-0208) prohibits installation of certain FCPC parts by allowing only a serviceable FCPC to be installed; operators must follow the parts installation restrictions specified in the referenced EASA AD. The prohibition is part of the compliance requirements to address the triple "PRIM FAULT" unsafe condition.
