Firm EA and 90-Day Decision Timeline

FERC will issue an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Vinton Dome Storage Hub Project on January 29, 2027, and the EA will be open for a 30-day public comment period. Other federal agencies must complete required federal authorization decisions within 90 days of the EA issuance—by April 29, 2027—per the Commission's schedule.

EA Will Address Local Environmental Concerns

The EA will address substantive public comments about cumulative effects of nearby natural gas facilities and specific concerns about groundwater, local water supplies, wetlands, waterways, and effects on impacted communities. Commenters also requested transparency of privileged information and questioned the applicant's qualifications; the EA will respond to those substantive comments.

Large-Scale Storage and Pipeline Construction Planned

The Project would build a natural gas storage facility in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana with about 63.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) total underground storage capacity and 44.5 Bcf working capacity, five salt cavern storage units (each 12.7 Bcf total, 8.9 Bcf working), a 55,000-horsepower compressor station with ten 5,500-hp engines, six groundwater withdrawal and six Class II brine disposal wells, and roughly 16-mile northern and eastern dual 24-inch pipeline headers plus about 0.88 mile of laterals.

30-Day Public Comment Opportunity and eSubscription

When the EA is issued on January 29, 2027, it will be published for a 30-day comment period so affected parties can submit comments. FERC offers a free eSubscription service to receive automatic notifications and provides contact information for public participation and filing assistance.
