Published Date: 9/18/2026

Notice

Summary

NIST and NIBIB want your ideas to help improve the rules and measurements for medical imaging, devices, and tests. They’re hosting a big meeting on September 24, 2026, to talk about the future of healthcare tech and want feedback by November 30, 2026. This will guide new government programs to make medical tools safer and better for everyone.

How to Submit Comments — Rules and Public Posting

Comments must be submitted electronically at www.regulations.gov under docket NIST-2026-0133 and received by November 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time; NIST will not accept comments by postal mail, email, or fax. All submissions (including attachments) will become part of the public record and will be posted without change, and NIST will not accept requests to treat submitted material as confidential business information.

Your Input Will Shape Future Programs

If you are an organization, company, or individual interested in medical imaging, devices, diagnostics, or therapy, your written input and symposium participation will be used to create a joint NIST/NIBIB medical metrology and standards roadmap. That roadmap will identify future needs, major stakeholders, and provide guidance for future government programs that could influence how medical tools and measurements are developed and validated.

Accessibility Accommodations Are Available

If you are a person with a disability, NIST will provide reasonable accommodations such as sign language interpretation or assistive listening devices if you request them by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on September 11, 2026 (contact Sabina Mohan). The RFI will also be made available in alternate formats such as Braille or large print upon request.
