Covers Pregnancy and Childbirth Accommodations
If you are a current or former NARA employee or a job applicant, NARA expanded its Reasonable Accommodation Request Records (NARA 44) to include requests related to pregnancy or childbirth under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), Public Law 117-328. This change is part of the revised system that becomes effective November 16, 2026.
Records May Be Shared to Process Requests
NARA will share accommodation request records with people needed to process or implement the request, including managers, reasonable accommodation staff, and medical or health staff, and will follow routine uses A–I listed in Appendix A. This sharing supports processing and implementing accommodations and is described in the revised system effective November 16, 2026.
New Internal Online Tool for Requests
NARA will use an internal web-based application and database to receive, process, and monitor some reasonable accommodation requests and the associated records. The modernized online tool is part of the revised system that becomes effective November 16, 2026.
Sensitive Medical and Religious Data Stored Securely
NARA 44 records may include your name, contact information, medical information, and details about religious beliefs or practices. NARA stores electronic records in a secure cloud-based system, encrypts data in transit and at rest, restricts access to authorized accounts, and states records are temporary and destroyed according to the NARA Records Schedule.
