Analyzed Economic Effects
5 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.
Query Service Merged for Faster Updates
HRSA is merging the NPDB One-Time Query and Continuous Query services into a single query process. Eligible entities will receive an initial query response and be enrolled in continuous monitoring for the query period, and entities using Continuous Query are notified of new reports within one business day.
30-Day Deadline for Adverse-Action Reporting
Entities required to report to the NPDB must submit a report within 30 days of taking a reportable action. The NPDB accepts reports nearly 24/7 via manual entry or an automated interface.
Estimated Annual Reporting Burden Published
HRSA estimates the ICR will involve 9,238,519 total annual responses and a total annualized burden of 403,194 hours across NPDB forms and queries (table totals in the notice).
Account Balance Transfer Form Removed
HRSA is eliminating the NPDB "Account Balance Transfer Request" form that allowed registered entities to transfer funds between their NPDB accounts. The notice says the data on that form are part of an electronic workflow that falls under a Paperwork Reduction Act exemption for voluntary commercial transactions.
NPDB Records Not Publicly Available
By law, HRSA cannot make NPDB information about specific practitioners available to the general public. Only entities and individuals authorized in statute and regulation may query the NPDB.
