Coordinated help for military sexual trauma claims

The law strengthens support during VA claims tied to military sexual trauma (MST). When you elect to get them, VA provides outreach letters, the Veterans Crisis Line, steps to book a mental health visit, and other MST resources during or right after each exam or hearing, and with each decision letter. If you are enrolled in VA health care and you consent, VA also alerts its health officials shortly before your exam, hearing, or when a decision is sent. Covered events include medical exams and Board of Veterans’ Appeals hearings. Materials can be sent electronically. VA must put this system in place no later than 18 months after enactment.
