Veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs patient system who have a VA-determined service-connected loss or loss of use of an extremity, paralysis or partial paralysis, or permanent blindness, and who require a wheelchair, prosthetic limb, or other assistive device are eligible for TSA PreCheck at no cost if they meet background and other security requirements.

Show full summary
  • Severely injured or disabled veterans: Eligible for expedited security screening at no cost while still subject to required background and security checks.
  • VA and TSA: Must coordinate implementation and outreach, assess awareness and possible travel-security improvements with veterans service organizations, provide an outreach status briefing within 180 days, and brief specified congressional committees on implementation within one year. TSA may implement the change subject to available appropriations and may not raise PreCheck enrollment fees for this purpose.

Free TSA PreCheck for disabled veterans

You can get TSA PreCheck for free if you are a veteran with a severe service-connected disability. You must be enrolled in the VA patient system, have a VA decision for loss of a limb, paralysis (full or partial), or permanent blindness, and need a wheelchair, prosthetic, or other mobility device because of it. You must also pass TSA background and security checks. TSA cannot raise PreCheck fees to fund this, and the benefit depends on available funding. TSA and VA must set up the process and brief Congress within one year. They must also do outreach with veterans groups about TSA disability programs and brief Congress on that within 180 days.
