118-hr-4366, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024
This law funds the federal government for FY2024 and bundles wide-ranging policy changes across defense, veterans, agriculture, housing, health, and science. It sets detailed dollar allocations and program rules that steer how agencies spend and report through September 30, 2024 and beyond.
118-hr-1096, 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps Commemorative Coin Act
Creates a self‑financing commemorative coin program honoring the United States Marine Corps' 250th anniversary. The law authorizes specially designed gold, silver, and half‑dollar coins sold with a 2025 date and required inscriptions.
118-hr-9468, Veterans Benefits Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024
Fills VA benefits funding shortfalls. This law provides extra appropriations to keep veterans' benefits flowing and forces stronger financial reporting and oversight at the Department of Veterans Affairs. - Veterans and families: Funds the Veterans Benefits Administration with $2.3 billion for Compensation and Pensions and $597 million for Readjustment Benefits to cover announced shortfalls and support benefit payments. - VA budgeting and transparency: Requires the Secretary to submit corrections to forecasting within 30 days and a fund-status report that is updated regularly through September 30, 2026 to improve data quality and budget assumptions. - Oversight and accountability: Directs the Inspector General to review the causes of the VBA 2024 shortfall and the VHA 2025 shortfall, analyze spending versus spend plans and any fund transfers, and report findings within 180 days with recommendations to improve projections. This law increases federal spending by about $2.9 billion in supplemental appropriations to the VA.
118-hr-82, Social Security Fairness Act of 2023
Repeals the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision to restore Social Security benefits for many public‑sector retirees. It removes statutory cross‑references to those rules and directs the Social Security Administration to update benefit calculations and payments. - Public‑sector retirees with pensions from jobs not covered by Social Security will stop having their spousal or survivor benefits reduced. Many people who lost part of their Social Security because of these offsets can see higher monthly checks. - Workers whose own Social Security benefits were cut by the Windfall Elimination Provision will no longer face that penalty when their benefit is computed. That raises the primary insurance amount used to set their monthly benefit. - The Social Security Administration must adjust primary insurance amounts and monthly insurance benefits for months after December 2023, so changes take effect starting January 2024.
