Disaster Assistance Deadlines Alignment Act
Sponsored By: Senator Peters, Gary C. [D-MI]
Became Law
Summary
Aligns disaster unemployment assistance deadlines with Section 408 deadlines. The law amends the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act so the application deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance under Section 410 matches the deadline for individuals and households seeking aid under Section 408 for the same major disaster. The President may accept a late application for good cause if it is submitted before the period during which assistance for that disaster expires. The change applies only to amounts appropriated on or after enactment.

Same deadline for disaster unemployment claims
The law sets one matching deadline for disaster unemployment applications when help for individuals and households is also offered for the same disaster. The President can accept a late application if you have good cause. You must submit any late filing before the disaster unemployment assistance period ends. This rule applies only to money appropriated on or after this law’s enactment.
