More help for rural emergency medical services
The law renews the Rural EMS Training and Equipment Assistance Program for 2024 through 2028. Rural EMS providers can get grants for training and gear. Grants can buy drugs or devices approved or cleared by the FDA to treat known or suspected overdoses. EMS staff trained under the program must learn how to care for mental health and substance use crises. The Assistant Secretary runs the program, and it takes effect upon enactment.
