Became Law
Declassify information on the origins of COVID-19. This law requires the Director of National Intelligence to declassify and publicly release as much information as possible about potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of COVID-19. Within 90 days the Director must declassify details on WIV activities with or on behalf of the People’s Liberation Army, coronavirus research or related work at WIV before the outbreak, and information about WIV researchers who fell ill in autumn 2019, including names, symptoms, onset dates, roles, research exposure, hospital visits, and other signs of serious illness. The Director must also submit an unclassified report to Congress containing that information and only redactions necessary to protect sources and methods. The law states that identifying the origin is critical and that there is reason to suspect the WIV may be involved.
