Recognizing the importance of the Vietnamese Heritage Flag.
Sponsored By: Representative Tran, Derek [D-CA-45]
Introduced
Summary
Congress recognizes the yellow flag with three red stripes as the symbol of the Vietnamese national community that fought with the United States and of the Vietnamese‑American refugee community. The text notes the flag was the Republic of Vietnam's official flag from 1949 to 1975 and that millions fled after the fall of Saigon in 1975. It says more than 1.5 million Vietnamese Americans now live in the United States and that the flag symbolizes freedom, democracy, and the shared sacrifices of U.S. and South Vietnamese servicemembers during the Vietnam War. The resolution is a formal expression of congressional recognition.
