Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Limited military authority against Iran

If enacted, this bill would let the President use U.S. armed forces against Iran to target its nuclear weapons program, protect U.S. forces and facilities, enforce a blockade of Iranian ports, and keep the Strait of Hormuz open. The authorization would allow rescues of U.S. citizens or service members and intelligence collection or sharing in support of U.S. national security or partners. The bill would not allow sustained ground combat inside Iran, occupying Iranian territory, or nation-building or long-term security governance there. This authority would start when the bill is enacted and would end on July 30, 2026, with up to 30 extra days only to wind down deployments or engagements.

Monthly public reports on Iran actions

If enacted, the President would have to send Congress a public report at least every 30 days about actions taken under this authorization and other related military operations. Each report would say the legal authority and policy reasons, the expected scope and duration of hostilities, and an assessment of civilian and military casualties. Reports would be unclassified but could include a classified annex, and they would continue while the authorization remains in effect.
