Higher tax on donated appreciated property

This bill would expand an existing tax rule for gifts of appreciated property to more recipients. It would replace the phrase "political organization" with "specified organization" and define that to include political organizations and groups described in 501(c)(4), (5), and (6). The change would apply to transfers after the bill's enactment date, in taxable years ending after that date. If enacted, people or businesses who donate appreciated property to those groups would face the same tax treatment as donors to political organizations. That could raise tax costs for those donors.
