LANDs Act
Sponsored By: Representative Gosar, Paul A. [R-AZ-9]
Introduced
Summary
Congressional approval for large federal land withdrawals is required for any agency action that would remove more than 5,000 acres from general use. The bill also sharply limits national monument designations by capping size, narrowing what counts as an "object of antiquity," and protecting existing rights.

Congress must approve large land withdrawals
If enacted, federal agencies would need Congress's express approval before making a covered land withdrawal that totals more than 5,000 acres. A covered withdrawal would include withholding or reserving federal land from settlement, sale, mining, or other public-land uses, transferring land between federal agencies, or restricting certain offshore mineral-leasing activities. Temporary public land orders that expire within five years and are not extended would be exempt. The President could also exempt withdrawals necessary for national security.
