Local investigations after federal immigration shootings

If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Attorney General to let State and local law enforcement with jurisdiction access the scene when an ICE or Customs and Border Protection officer fires a gun on duty or injures or kills someone. Access would begin when a local officer arrives to perform regular investigative work, but agencies could limit access for real scene-safety or evidence-preservation needs. The bill would also require preserving and sharing evidence and investigative materials as they are developed, including body-worn camera footage, surveillance video, radio and dispatch records, digital communications, photos, forensic evidence, and witness statements. The bill does not provide new funding, create penalties, or add other program rules.
