Defense asset lists updated for Golden Dome
If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Defense to update the Department of Defense’s Critical Asset List within 180 days to include assets needed to develop, deploy, and operate the Golden Dome missile defense system. The list would include space-based sensors and interceptors and their ground control stations; specified ground missile defense sites in Alaska, Florida, Georgia, and Indiana; and key command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. The bill would also require a concurrent revision of the Defended Asset List with joint force commanders, prioritizing assets by their interception role, threat assessments, and available defenses such as Patriot, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense, and space-based interceptors. Not later than 270 days after enactment, the Secretary would deliver an unclassified report (with a possible classified annex) to Congress showing the updated lists, protection strategy and timelines, and risk and mitigation assessments including cybersecurity and supply chain security. These are DoD planning and protection steps and would not directly change household taxes, benefits, or legal obligations.
