Show full summary
The bill ties that graduation condition to the civics questions in section 312 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and says the demonstration must be proctored by a faculty member and conducted closed-book.
- Students: U.S.-born students would have to demonstrate the civics knowledge used for naturalization as a condition of finishing any program of study. The check must be proctored and without books or notes.
- Colleges and universities: Institutions covered by the Higher Education Act would need to add this as a mandatory graduation requirement for eligible students.
- Exemptions: Institutions described in section 102(a)(2) are carved out and not subject to this requirement.
