Sponsored By: Representative Patronis, Jimmy [R-FL-1]
Introduced
Summary
A moratorium on new oil and gas activity in the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range. This bill would prohibit offering for leasing, preleasing, production, or any related oil and gas activities in areas of the EGTR as designated by the Secretary of War. It preserves valid leases already in effect. The pause would end only when the Secretary of War certifies the EGTR is not of critical use and is subject to the bill's limited exceptions and termination triggers. Ban new oil activity in Eglin Range
If enacted, the bill would bar the Secretary from offering any area inside the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range for oil and gas leasing, preleasing, production, or related activities starting on the date of enactment. The geographic scope would be the range as designated by the Secretary of War on that date. Valid leases already in effect on that date would not be affected. The moratorium would end when the Secretary of War submits a certification to Congress that the range is not of critical use. This would protect military testing and readiness while also limiting new offshore drilling opportunities in that specific area.
