Build More Homes Act

Sponsored By: Representative Shreve, Jefferson [R-IN-6]

Introduced

Summary

A national GAO study of pattern books would collect evidence on whether preapproved, locality-assessed construction plans can increase housing supply and lower costs. The bill directs the Government Accountability Office to analyze effects on housing supply, permitting efficiency, and construction and development costs. It requires identification of regulatory and other barriers to wider use and recommendations of best practices, including for rural communities. The GAO must consult local governments and relevant public and private entities and submit a public report to Congress within 18 months. The bill defines pattern books as sets of construction plans approved by localities to streamline housing approvals.
