Grants for farms hit by April 2026 freeze

This bill would authorize $3.5 billion for fiscal year 2027, to remain available until expended, for block grants to 13 named States. The grants would go to Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. A covered State would need to request help through its department of agriculture or another State agency the Secretary of Agriculture approves. Grants would compensate producers for revenue, quality, or production losses from a freeze or cold-weather event in April 2026, including prevented planting and losses to multi-year crops, trees, bushes, and vines. The Secretary would have to send block grants within 120 days after funds are first made available and report to House and Senate Agriculture Committees by that deadline and quarterly until the money is spent.
