Show full summary
- Texas taxpayers and the state government: Would allow the Governor to seek reimbursement for border-security expenses the state reports, including a claimed $11.1 billion.
- Federal agencies: Would require DHS to review Texas's application within 120 days and report eligible costs, then direct Treasury to pay approved amounts within 60 days.
- Bill's stated results: The findings cite Texas figures such as over 500,000 apprehensions and more than 240 miles of border barriers constructed.
*Would increase federal outlays by directing the Treasury to pay approved Texas costs, potentially up to the $11.1 billion the state reports spending if fully reimbursed.*

Texas could get paid back for southern border costs
If enacted, Texas could get federal repayment for state border-security costs from 2021 through 2025. The Governor would apply to Homeland Security and Treasury with a full list and total. DHS would have 120 days to decide what costs qualify and report to Congress. Within 60 days of that report, Treasury would pay Texas the approved amount. Payments would come from Treasury funds not otherwise appropriated.
