Sponsored By: Representative Green, Mark E. [R-TN-7]

Introduced

Summary

Bars national exchanges from trading securities issued by "natural asset companies." This bill would make it unlawful for a national securities exchange to effect a transaction in a security issued by a natural asset company. It defines a natural asset company as an entity that holds rights to ecological performance and ecosystem-service production for a defined land area and whose primary purpose is to manage, maintain, restore, grow, or sustainably use those natural assets. The definition also reaches companies that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with such an entity.

No exchange trading of natural asset stocks

If enacted, U.S. national stock exchanges would be barred from trading securities issued by “natural asset companies.” A natural asset company would hold rights to a land area’s ecological performance and manage it for conservation, restoration, or sustainable use. The ban would also cover affiliated companies under common control. Investors holding these securities would not be able to buy or sell them on U.S. national exchanges. The bill does not set an effective date or list exemptions.
