Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
World banks could fund more nuclear power
The Treasury would tell U.S. representatives at the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other development banks to set up Nuclear Energy Assistance Trust Funds. These funds would provide money and technical help for nuclear power projects in borrowing countries. Financing would aim to be competitive, including to counter support from countries outside OECD export credit rules. Only nuclear technologies that meet U.S. or allied quality standards would qualify. The Secretary could send the U.S. share of fund revenue back to the Treasury, and would press these banks to lift bans and build staff capacity for nuclear projects.
Ten-year limit on nuclear financing push
The bill would end its authorities 10 years after enactment. After that date, the act and all changes it makes would no longer apply. This would terminate the instructions and related amendments created by the bill at that time.
