New Medicare wheelchair payment and notice rules
The bill would require at least two Medicare Part B billing codes for ultralightweight manual wheelchairs furnished starting January 1, 2028. These codes would separate bases using titanium or carbon fiber from bases without those materials. For titanium or carbon fiber models, Medicare would keep its usual payment amount and schedule. Suppliers would be allowed to charge patients the difference between their actual price and Medicare's payment. The government would have the option to require suppliers to warn patients about those costs before purchase or rental.
