Audit pandemic transit money at big agencies
If enacted, this would require the Transportation Department’s Inspector General to audit pandemic relief money at the five largest transit agencies by 2019 trips, as reported to the National Transit Database, if they received funds under the listed laws. The audits would cover the five fiscal years ending before enactment. They would show how much each agency got under each law and how the money was spent. Covered laws include Chapter 53 transit funds, the 2020 Coronavirus Preparedness Act, the CARES Act, the 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act, and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The bill would use the existing federal definition of “public transportation,” and the Inspector General would report to Congress within 180 days after enactment.
