Official VA badge and tighter checks
This bill would tighten oversight of people who help veterans with VA claims. VA would add 14 areas of detail on training, vetting, staffing, processing time, and denials to its yearly report. Within 180 days after the first such report, and each year after, VA would ask each recognized person to update contact info and would update the public Accreditation Search Database, with posted instructions. The bill would also create an official certification mark, registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, for recognized claims helpers. Fraudulent use could bring fines or prison under federal law, and civil penalty money would stay with VA for enforcement without a yearly limit. Uses that were lawful on the enactment date would remain lawful.
