Show full summary
  • Veterans: Veterans enrolled in VA care with a PTSD diagnosis could elect to receive SGB after counseling from a qualified health care provider. Care may be provided at VA medical facilities or through specified outside providers.
  • Active‑duty service members and reservists: Members enrolled in the TRICARE program who have PTSD could elect SGB after informed consent. The Department of Defense could deliver SGB at military medical facilities or via TRICARE participating providers.
  • Clinical guidance and timing: The VA and DoD would have to update the VA/DoD Joint Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD within 180 days to add SGB as an option and to list clinical indicators and contraindicators. The changes to coverage would take effect 180 days after enactment and the Secretaries must notify relevant congressional committees after the guideline is updated.

PTSD nerve block for vets and troops

Troops, including reservists who have performed active service, would need to be enrolled in TRICARE. You must have a PTSD diagnosis and choose the treatment after a qualified provider explains risks and benefits. Care could be at VA/DoD facilities or through approved outside providers. This would start 180 days after enactment.

PTSD guideline adds nerve block option

If enacted, the VA and DoD would update their joint PTSD care guideline within 180 days. The update would list stellate ganglion block as a treatment option and explain when it should or should not be used. After the update, the agencies would notify the defense and veterans’ affairs committees in Congress.
