Paychecks for border agents during shutdowns

If enacted, the government would keep paying certain border and immigration agents during a funding shutdown. Money would come from Treasury funds not already allocated, as needed for salaries and operating costs. Covered staff would include agents and officers doing mission‑critical work at Southwest, Northern, and maritime ports of entry and between them, to stop terrorists, weapons, drugs, and other contraband. It would also include ICE officers who detain or remove noncitizens and who investigate smuggling, trafficking, and illegal trade. This stopgap would end once Congress passes a new spending law that funds this work, or passes a broader bill that leaves it unfunded.
