Crop Insurance for Future Farmers Act

Sponsored By: Representative Feenstra, Randy [R-IA-4]

In Committee

Summary

Expand crop insurance support for beginning and veteran farmers and ranchers. This bill would lengthen how long someone counts as a beginning or veteran farmer and would change how supplemental reinsurance assistance is calculated to give larger boosts early on.

Show full summary
  • Beginning and veteran farmers and ranchers: Would qualify as "beginning" or "veteran" for 10 crop years instead of 5, extending access to special crop insurance support.
  • Supplemental assistance schedule: Would create a stepped set of percentage-point boosts to reinsurance assistance, peaking at 15 percentage points in the first two reinsurance years and tapering to 10 percentage points by years five through ten.
  • Statutory cleanup: Would strike subparagraph (F) of Section 522(c)(7) to conform the statute to the new assistance framework.
