Weight-limit relief for short-haul log trucks

If enacted, the bill would let the U.S. DOT Secretary waive federal Interstate weight limits for some log trucks. Trucks must carry raw or unfinished forest products, like logs or wood chips, and travel no more than 150 air miles on the Interstate to a storage or processing site. They must meet the State’s legal weight tolerances and vehicle configurations where they operate. The waiver would only apply to State tolerances that are in effect on the date of enactment. If passed, this could allow bigger loads or fewer trips on short Interstate segments and would take effect upon enactment.
