Ranching Without Red Tape Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Vasquez, Gabe [D-NM-2]

In Committee

Summary

The Ranching Without Red Tape Act of 2025 would _streamline minor range improvements on federal grazing lands_ by allowing grazing permit and lease holders to perform routine repairs and water work after a short notice and agency approval or non-response. It would require the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior to issue regulations within one year, impose 30-day response deadlines for district or state managers, define "minor range improvements" to include fences, wells, water pipelines and stock tanks, and direct agencies to expedite approved work using existing administrative tools such as categorical exclusions while not creating new funding or changing grant or loan programs.

Faster small fixes on federal grazing lands

If you hold a Forest Service or BLM grazing permit or lease, you could make small range repairs. You would need to give at least 30 days' notice to the local ranger or BLM manager. If they approve or do not reply in 30 days, you could proceed under upcoming rules. USDA and Interior would have 1 year to issue these rules, and if you ask the agency to do the work, it would have to answer within 30 days and fast-track the project. Examples include fences, wells, water pipelines, and stock tanks.
