To authorize the President to award the Medal of Honor to Doris Miller posthumously for acts of valor while a member of the Navy during World War II.

Sponsored By: Representative Mfume, Kweisi [D-MD-7]

Introduced

Summary

Posthumous Medal of Honor for Doris Miller would be authorized by this bill, allowing the President to award the Medal of Honor for Miller's acts of valor during World War II. The bill explicitly overrides statutory time limits on awarding medals and cites Miller's Navy Cross for Pearl Harbor, the Navy and NAACP recognition that preceded it, Admiral Nimitz pinning the cross, and Miller's death aboard the USS Liscome Bay in 1943.
